SJA News Nov 11 2025

Hello Members,

Remembrance Day is one of the most important days on our commemorative calendar. It's a day when we acknowledge those who died or suffered while serving in wars, conflicts and peace operations.

Remembrance Day is held on 11 November each year. This is the anniversary of the Armistice of 1918 that ended fighting in World War l. The war didn't officially end until 28 June 1919 with the Treaty of Versailles.

Daniel Champagne produced a guitar master class at the Social Justice Advocates' fund raising concert on Sunday afternoon. A truly impressive performance from the Bega Valley raised and bred, now worldwide acclaimed performer.

When offered his payment, Daniel humbly declined, saying "Thank you, but I know how much the Social Justice Advocates do for the homeless in the Bega Valley and I would prefer that this money go towards their great work."

What an outstanding gesture!

Thank you so much Daniel. Every cent will go towards helping so many people in the Valley.

AND

Thanks to The Figmentz band and team for organising and playing, along with Goldie, Geese Fly South and

Club Sapphire for hosting the event.

Visitors from MARSS

The recent collaboration between the Migrant Refugee and settlement services (MARSS) group in Canberra and the Advocates was a great success again this year. We had visitors from Afghanistan, Ukraine, Iran, Palestine, Eritrea and Syria.

With thanks to the 12 Host families, and other supporters, we welcomed 46 Visa Holders from Canberra Thursday evening thanks to Sapphire Coast Bus lines.

A school visit on Friday to Wolumla public School and Lumen Christi, was followed by a swim at Main Beach in very calm low tide conditions, and then a free afternoon for the families.

Saturday we re-gathered at Pambula Beach and despite the angry sea we enjoyed a great BBQ and play on the equipment.

Thanks to the Pambula Beach surf Life saving club for your hospitality, and Rotary for the loan of their BBQ trailer.

Following that, some headed for sheltered waters at Mitchies Jetty for an afternoon dip.

Other families gathered for a party on Saturday night leading into the cold and windy Sunday .

The families had to dig deep to find activities that suited on the Sunday, before returning home to Canberra with Pat on the Sapphire Coast Coach.

We look forward to continued friendships between the guests and hosts, before we do all again next year.

Thanks so much to all involved, spreading love, not hate and fear!

Come along to hear campaign updates and science on why ending native forest logging is urgent for climate and wildlife. You'll hear from:

Harriet Swift — South East Forest Rescue

Tamlyn Magee — Local environmentalist, activist & BBF march organiser

David Gallan — Wildlife photographer, independent filmmaker and environmental campaigner

Doro Babeck — BBF NSW Campaigner

Lisa Searle — BBF Campaigns Organiser

Across the country, native forest logging is still destroying forests — pushing threatened wildlife to the brink of extinction and fuelling the climate crisis. In the face of this destruction, communities are rising up and proving that people power can turn the tide.

Relentless community pressure recently won a moratorium on logging within the boundaries of the Great Koala National Park on the NSW Mid North Coast. We are working to end native forest logging nationwide and across NSW forests with their important habitats for Greater Gliders, Powerful Owls and koalas.

image

Almost 30,000 of you have marched and rallied with us for forests in the past two years at our nationwide events.

We'll be doing it again in March 2026.

In the meantime, make sure to join us in Bega for our Forest Roadshow. For forests,

Doro Babeck     NSW Campaigner
