SJA News April 29 2026

Hello Members,

We remember the people who lost their lives serving our country in past conflicts, and those who live on, and hope that we learn lessons for the future.

                                                                                                                 LEST WE FORGET

Housing News

****See letters from State MP's attached

Well folks, our local member has responded to the prompt at our general meeting about impactful actions of the Reflections Pambula Caravan Park.

We thank Dr Holland for taking the time and his clear concern about the homeless coming again to the fore .

However,  again a tap on the head from the Planning Minister Paul Scully in that we get a description of what might be coming in his replay (attached) but our current travesties continue.

What can I do ?? How may I help ?

Please members and friends of SJA , should you feel so inclined, please write to the premier raising this example of how the reality demands responses now, whilst planning will continue into the future for the future!

Update:

The ex park manager who was in our SJA caravan next to one of our empty Transitional units is now in this same SJA van in Bega paying an extortionate $750 for the next two weeks .

Advocacy is what we do !!

Cheers

Film Screening May 8

The Far South Coast branch of the National Parks Association NSW is pleased to screen the premiere of Tallaganda at the new Headland Theatre on the occasion of Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday.  Poster Below.

Tickets at www.headlandtheatre.com.au

OR

https://events.humanitix.com/tallaganda-film-screening-and-talk?_gl=1*4ymi4h*

Tallaganda features the conservation issues of the endangered greater glider, the academics who work to understand them and the activists seeking to protect their habitat along the edge of the Monaro Tablelands in Tallaganda (near Captains Flat) , Badja (near Countegeny) and Glenbog (at the top of Brown Mountain) State Forests which are all still under threat from industrial scale logging.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A panel with the filmmaker, SJA member David Gallan, glider researcher and videographer, Dr Ana Gracanin and veteran forest campaigner, Scott 'Sooty’ Daines.

This film uses innovative techniques with conventional and infrared cameras, as well as thermal cameras, to record the natural behaviour of a range of gliders and other nocturnal species. The recordings of glide sequences are memorable. Ana’s groundbreaking recordings from inside a greater glider den tree are also a film highlight.

The screening will be at the Headland Theatre, Tathra Hotel at 6:30pm, May 8. Tickets are $15 each.

Thanks, Dave Gallan

Community wellbeing:

A huge thank you to all who joined our community clean up in Pambula Beach 22 April.

Simply fantastic and the lady was in awe .

So good to do the simple work to help – nothing fancy just basic support .

So good to team up AGAIN with the Pambula Merimbula Lions  with so many from each . Life is so mush easier when numbers are involved .

I:know Mission Australia are very appreciative and don’t have capacity for such support – well done Adam .

FYI whilst the Council provided the skip , the tip fee for the truck was $450 !?! Just something amiss with that and I don’t blame the folks on site at the tip .

**** members who would like to donate any spare tip vouchers please send a screenshot of the voucher to secretary@sjasc.org.au

Please note they expire July 31 2026 when a new batch will be issued.

Cheers and stay tuned folks

What can I do ??? How may I help ???
