Well folks
It’s Up to Us campaign is on a roll — big time !
All SJA members will thank the Sleep On It event team for an absolutely fabulous event .
With a Welcome to Country by Aunty Colleen and emcee Matthew Knott this was such a relaxed and inclusive event .
Both the music and sleep component were so positive, informative and encouraging.
Member for Eden Monaro Kristy Mc Bain, local member Michael Holland, Shadow minister for Housing and Homeless Rose Jackson, the mayor and many others shared their respective insights and perspectives.
These folks and three other local councillors ( five councillors in all attended ) joined about 45 others in sleeping out in a very well organised roughout in the Bega pavilion.
BUT this event has raised in excess of $30,000 — simply awesome and
THANK YOU TO THE ORGANISING TEAM .
Thank you to ALL the community organisations who contributed in SO MANY WAYS .
THIS buys one of our housing units !!!!!!!!!
****. SO awareness raised, money raised and dignity for our homeless raised.
This bodes so well for the upcoming Affordable Housing Strategy adoption and implementation processes.
ALSO
— SJA Has now gained approval and access for at least two of our crisis housing units at the Reflections Caravan Park in Pambula.
— SJA has now gained access for two of our crisis housing units at a very prominent site in the heart of Bega .
— SJA has now put a deposit on two crisis housing units as the start of our plan to upgrade from our nine year long caravan solution for our Bega Valley homeless crisis. We will provide more comfort and dignity for the homeless in these transitional / crisis units.
These are two bedroom units with bathroom toilet facilities and kitchen provision.
We hope to be able to afford six of these crisis units with two as well in Eden when suitable land can be located.
We hope to embellish them with a roof over, water tank, and a verandah.
Love to include solar of course !!!!!?
Unfortunately the music festival at Longstocking scheduled for the 23RD of April has had to be POSTPONED until later in the year -date to be advised.
Disappointing, but will make for a more enjoyable and drier, cleaner event.
Thanks to all those who purchased tickets and arrangements will be made for reimbursement or hold over for later this year – to be advised.
The community has certainly responded to
