The SJA’s longstanding quest to establish SJA chapters in all four secondary schools in the Bega Valley has now resulted in our being very well positioned to have chapters up and running in all four schools in 2025.

Thanks to the efforts of a number of SJA people, we now have an ‘SJA Lead Co-Ordinator’, an ‘SJA Support’ person, plus a ‘School Contact’ person in place in each school.

The Lead Co-Ordinators are the SJA representatives who will be the key liaison person with the school contact. They will attend sufficient meetings to maintain an SJA presence, and encourage and support the work of the chapters.

The SJA Support person will stay up to date with what is happening in ‘their’ school, and share visits, as agreed, to the schools with the Lead Co-ordinator.

The people who have put their hands up and agreed to take on these key roles are :

EDEN MARINE HIGH SCHOOL
Lead Co-ordinator Martin McGee
Support Peter Skelton
School Contact Leif Bergersen

BEGA HIGH
Lead Co-ordinator Denise Perry
Support Jan Reynolds
School Contact Bindy Hayes, Deputy Principal

LUMEN CHRISTI CATHOLIC COLLEGE
Lead Co-ordinator Jack Grey
Support Peter Reid
School Contact Eileen Reckord

SAPPHIRE COAST ANGLICAN COLLEGE
Lead Co-ordinator Mick Brosnan (Acting )
School Contact Jay Trevaskas Deputy Principal.

With these chapters in place, the SJA has succeeded in establishing a lifelong pathway for young people interested in working for our community. They can step up from their school chapters into the SJA Youth Group and then into the SJA mainstream, learning all about community work along the way.

We are delighted that the SJA has reached this milestone.
