HOUSING UPDATE:
I would like to thank Marion from About Regional (see link below) for again bringing this to the attention of all our Bega Valley community.
A proposal that would enable the council to control and enable the development of crisis housing through moveable dwellings has been stalled yet again. Along with two DA s lodged over 800 and 200 days ago this draft DA was a lateral initiative designed to assist council to move this issue into positive action . It does make me wonder how seriously our council is understanding our crisis and motivated to take action ??
Meanwhile Social Justice Advocates eight active crisis transitional units and 26 caravans provide the ONLY dedicated crisis support for our homeless in this Shire- over sixty people are housed EVERY NIGHT .

Many thanks are due to Bill Foxwell for his volunteering work. He received a Paul Harris award from president Lynne Koerbin at Rotary Pambula on Saturday night. Mark Smith received the same award last year. These two men have been magnificent volunteers with our SJA work, working with Rotary on projects to help the community recover from the disastrous fires we experienced: projects such as building shelter bathrooms, water tanks etc.
Darryl Dobson, Rotary’s incoming president, and Mick Brosnan, both pictured here with Lynne Koerbin and Mark Smith also volunteered after the fires.

Thanks guys for being there for our community.

White Rock is a compelling new documentary helmed by Damon Gameau (2040, That Sugar Film) that brings together scientists, chefs, fishers, and policymakers to tackle one of the biggest environmental challenges facing our oceans – the explosion of longspined sea urchins devastating Australia’s kelp forests. Shot across stunning locations from NSW to Tasmania, the film unpacks the science, the stakes, and the emerging solutions to this underwater crisis.
Join us for the White Rock Q&A Tour with expert panel to explore how this issue is affecting Australia’s kelp forests and what we can do about it.
PAMBULA STREETSCAPE PROPOSED SIGNAGE AT SERVICE STATION —
Refers to perceived inappropriate signage sought through a new DA put to council. There is a lot of signage proposed, including a SIX METRE ‘PIE FACE’ sign similar to the huge McDonalds signs all over the world. Respond using the link below.
DA No: 10-2025-27-1

Six signs , one at 6m high , to be placed at the corner servo in Pambula . From Mick Brosnan:I object because of the aesthetics. This shows a total disregard and lack of understanding this multinational corporation has for our Pambula “village“.
I object because it also ignores the magnificent development of Covingtons and the associated gifted park that have so changed and enhanced our village.
Likewise there are huge efforts by the retailers in this shopping strip to make our village so comfortable and welcoming.
We do not need this signage .We do not need to be harangued constantly by such crass and urbane reminders .
We do need to lodge an objection to this DA by the first week of April .
Cheers and take action now Mb
BEGA VALLEY ADVOCATES FOR TIMOR LESTE (an SJA sub group) INVITE YOU TO:
A Latin American dance night at Mumbulla School Hall on Saturday 5th April. This will be a full-on night of dancing to Los Zafiros from 7pm with a Salsa dance lesson from Elise at 6.15 and a relaxing introduction to the night with some Latin tunes from Guitarama starting at 5.30. Tickets are available from Humanitix (link below) and at the door, if still available ($25). Tapas plates will also be available.
*****Many thanks to our tech guru Ray Temmerman (volunteer) for transitioning our email system to Google Workspace.
The continued growth of SJA rendered our previous system slow and time consuming for bulk emails.
Please be patient while we become familiar with the new system.
