A group of SJA members attended the recent Rising Tide People's Blockade in Newcastle, the world's largest coal port.
It was hot, windy and noisy – but peaceful.
This highly organised event can be described as a cross between a beach party, football match and music festival. Over 8000 attended over 3 days.
Fast becoming a 'must do' event for anyone who cares about the planet, and a 'meeting of the tribes'.
Be there with us on the beach, or on the water next year! https://www.risingtide.org.au/
Rising Tide has three demands of government:
1) Immediately cancel all new fossil fuel projects.
2) Tax fossil fuel exports at 78% to fund community and industrial transition, and pay forclimate loss and damage.
3) End coal exports from Newcastle – the world's largest coal port – by 2030.

Sapphire Coast Reef Life Survey
Hi Wendy,
Just letting you know the Sapphire Coast Reef Life Survey (RLS) training workshop was successfully completed over 21-24 November and enjoyed by all involved. (photos attached)
Dive participants were Jayde Rankin, Will Marshall-Grey, Matthew Durban, Todd Sowers and Jen Thompson.
Many thanks must go to Antonia Cooper for making time available to come over from Tasmania to run the training workshop, Jayde Rankin for coordination of air fills and boat charter and local dive knowledge, and Cayne and Sham for workshop support and encouragement to all divers. While undertaking the dive survey training, we also managed to collect valuable biodiversity data at 8 different sites across Twofold Bay that will contribute to the broader RLS dataset for the Twofold-Shelf bioregion.
We are hopeful that if budget allows, we may be able to run another similar training workshop in 2026 for those divers who expressed interest but missed out on this 2025 event.
Thanks for your support Wendy and to the generous funding donation from the SJA 'Ocean Guardians' benefactor.
cheers
Nick
